Midnight Bourbon at the Kentucky Derby 2021
By: Kyle Hampton 5.15.2021
The field of 10 is all set for the 146th running of the Preakness Stakes. This Saturday, the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the triple crown, will run at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore Maryland. The controversial Derby winner, Medina Spirit, will run out of post position number 3 and has morning line odds of 9-5. Pimlico allowed Medina Spirit to run contingent on that he gets two drug tests prior to the Preakness. This year’s Preakness Stakes should be a great race with a lot of great competitors in this year’s field. Check out my picks below!
My Top Picks:
Midnight Bourbon – This colt did not have the best trip in the Derby, with his post position and getting squeezed off the pace. Placing sixth in the Derby did not show his full potential and with Irad Ortiz Jr. on the mount, I could see this colt in the winner’s circle.
Medina Spirit– After a controversial Derby win and going gate to wire, this colt has great potential but also could show vulnerability. Only colt in the field that has a triple Beyer speed figure. There is still a possibility of him going on and winning the triple crown, which could add some more confidence.
Concert Tour– Last time out, placed third in the Arkansas Derby, not his best performance last time out but this colt shows potential. The long layoff could help to get him back on form. If he goes out and gives it his all, watch out.
